RØDE Wireless ME Compact Wireless Microphone System

The single-transmitter Wireless ME suits a presenter or a guest with an interviewer behind the camera. Its receiver microphone adds a second voice without another remote transmitter, and the included cables cover analogue and digital recording. Choose it when app-based setup and recording directly to a host are acceptable. If an onboard backup is essential, this kit does not meet that requirement.

Symptom
The FiLMiC Pro installation in ProVideo Coalition's April 2023 test did not offer Wireless ME as a microphone source.

Check before buying
  • Confirm the single-TX package, intended host connection and whether the production requires onboard backup.
Constraints
  • The receiver stays connected to the host; settings depend on an app.
Needs
  • Capture a remote subject and a camera-side voice with a compact kit.
Reason
It fits the camera-side interview pattern; other speaker positions or backup requirements can change the choice.
Tradeoffs
  • The receiver mic adds a voice, but the package contains only one remote TX and no internal backup.
Assessment

RØDE Wireless ME: decide around the receiver microphone

One transmitter, two microphones

This WIME package contains one transmitter and one receiver, each with a built-in microphone. The guest can wear the transmitter while the camera-side interviewer uses the receiver's ME mic. That second microphone is useful, but it remains attached by cable to the recording device; it does not turn the package into two freely roaming transmitters. Each unit weighs 32 g, and its clip can attach to clothing or a camera shoe. [6], [3], [1]

The package includes SC21 Lightning, SC22 USB-C, SC2 TRS and SC7 TRRS connection cables, two furry windshields and a pouch. An external microphone connects to the transmitter input. A compatible extra Series IV transmitter can expand the system, but it is not included. Check the exact single-transmitter package before buying accessories or planning an interview with two people away from the camera. [6], [3]

Treat ratings as planning limits, not guarantees

Amateur Photographer reported clean speech with a Sony Alpha A7 III and useful results from the included windshields. The official frequency range is 20 Hz to 20 kHz, with omnidirectional pickup. Those specifications and a positive field report do not establish a controlled noise or latency benchmark. The manufacturer's range is a line-of-sight rating; the larger retailer figure lacks a verified test. Assess the actual shooting position and radio path before trusting a distant take. [3], [2], [6]

RØDE rates operating time at 7 hours, with built-in batteries charged over USB. A controlled continuous-runtime result, battery-replacement procedure and support-end commitment were not established in the retained evidence. More importantly, Wireless ME has no internal recording: the host recording is the take you depend on. The receiver also lacks an audio-level display. For an unrepeatable event, the need for an independent backup can outweigh this kit's compact setup. [3], [2], [1]

Set the recording chain before the interview

The receiver offers analogue output for a camera and digital USB audio for compatible phones or computers. The supplied pair is factory paired, but microphone activation, GainAssist and channel choices require RØDE Central. Auto aims for even levels; Dynamic preserves more variation in a controlled setting. Neither choice removes the need to set the camera's own level. Make a test recording in the intended host and app instead of assuming that a matching connector proves the whole workflow. [2], [5], [1], [4]

For the included TX and RX microphones, Split keeps the voices on separate left/right channels for editing, while Merged combines them. ProVideo Coalition demonstrated a split interview and then a centred mono version. Split is useful when the voices need separate adjustment, but leaving the channels untouched can make playback sound artificially separated. Also confirm that the ME mic is enabled when the interviewer should be heard, or disabled when only the remote subject matters. [2], [5]

Buyer questions

Before you buy

Does this package include two wireless transmitters?

No. WIME / B0BQLB596V includes one TX and one RX. Both have microphones, so it can capture a guest and the person beside the receiver. A second compatible transmitter is an additional purchase. [6], [3]

Compatibility

Is camera setup the same as USB recording?

No. The camera path uses analogue output and the camera's input level still matters. USB carries digital audio to a compatible host. Test the intended app and recording level; the retained evidence does not establish identical gain behavior across these paths. [1], [4]

Everyday use

Should I use Split or Merged?

Choose Split for separate adjustment of the included TX and RX voices in editing; centre or mix the channels for final playback. Choose Merged when you want their combined output. Set the mode and ME-mic activation through RØDE Central. [5], [2]

Limitations

Can it recover audio if the host recording fails?

There is no internal audio recorder or onboard backup. Check that the camera, phone or computer is actually recording, and use a separate backup arrangement when losing a take would be unacceptable. [2]

Care and maintenance

Can I plan on the full rated battery life?

The official operating-time rating is 7 hours. Treat that as a manufacturer specification rather than a verified continuous-runtime result for your setup, and charge both units before an important session. [3]

KnowSpec analysis

A compact interview kit with a specific compromise

The single-transmitter Wireless ME suits a presenter or a guest with an interviewer behind the camera. Its receiver microphone adds a second voice without another remote transmitter, and the included cables cover analogue and digital recording. Choose it when app-based setup and recording directly to a host are acceptable. If an onboard backup is essential, this kit does not meet that requirement.
